Patrick Jouin

A graduate of the Ecole Nationale de Création Industrielle (ENSCI), Patrick Jouin founded his design agency in Paris in 1998. From year to year and project to project – interiors and industrial design, architecture and exhibition design – his vision has grown into a reference on the international stage. Patrick Jouin stands out thanks to the elegant, clean style of each of his projects. His quest for a balance between tradition and innovation leads to brilliant, enchanted designs every time.

Happily experimenting with designers from all realms and all fields, his life-changing encounter with French chef Alain Ducasse led to some of the world’s “most beautiful” restaurants including the Plaza Athénée in Paris, Dorchester (London), Chlösterli-Spoon (Gstaad), Spoon Byblos (Saint Tropez), and Mix (Las Vegas), while other meetings have led to collaborations of furniture editions with Kartell, Cassina, Alessi and Ligne Roset.

Patrick Jouin bewitches materials: plastic, crystal, porcelain, aluminium and wood undergo the most astonishing transformations in his hands. Taste and technical skill are permanent characteristics of his work. His experiments with the transformation of an object’s very structure through various, sometimes little-known, techniques have resulted in such ground-breaking series as his Solid chairs, developed using stereolithography

Hailed for his ability to marry the functionality of an object, the design of a space, its line and beauty, Patrick ensures the long-term protection of his work in such alliances. Take, for example, the elegance of the Pastapot saucepan made in collaboration with Ducasse for Alessi (for which he has received the Compasso d’Oro in 2011), the lightweight material of his gas-injected Thalya chair, or the fairytale fittings for the historic salons of Van Cleef & Arpels.
